Xiao Long Baos are a steamed bun dish, filled with savory and juicy soup - hence the name English name Soup Dumplings. The origin of this dish is Jiangnan, a region of China, but Shanghainese Xiao Long Bao originated in Nanxiang, a suburb of Shanghai in Jiading District. The dish is traditionally prepared in xiao long; small bamboo baskets for steaming, and filled with juicy pork - although a popular and version of it today is a mixture of steamed pork and minced crab meat with roe.
