The Women of China's Embroidery
Try your hand at Chinese Embroidery today! We teach all ages!
About the workshop
Embroidery originated from the human desire to decorate themselves, first with painted colours on skin, then a primitive form of tattooing, and later on dyeing colours on cloth before embroidering on silk. Because Chinese embroidery was mostly made by women (and in Ancient Times, women of the upper echelon) embroidery has another term by which it is called “女红”, or “the feminine arts”.
At Joyful Art Space, Fan Fan will bring you insight into the many ethnic minorities in China, each with their own style of embroidery, unique in design, color, and materials used. You will also learn about the four main schools of Embroidery - and play a part in ensuring this great craft is preserved down generations in the future.
