Public Class · · Learn about the edible seeds/plants in Singapore!
This workshop seeks to introduce the common wild flowers and weeds in Singapore. Participants will receive guidance on how to identify and classify wild plants (into Families such as Legumes, Convolvulaceae etc and Morphology such as broad leaf or sedge weeds etc) for easy identification. Field samples (plants) will be provided for a visual illustration of identification methods.
The workshop will also explain the significance of weeds to farmers/gardeners: eg. how weeds tell a story of the land in terms of the soil's nutritional composition, its role in feeding local wildlife and their medicinal properties (where applicable). This workshop is therefore recommended for butterfly/moth keepers, soil-based gardeners and budding herbologists. Depending on the feedback I get, I MAY bring caterpillars for educational purposes (please voice out any violent objections).
**Participants will be given a free packet of "Wild Flower & Weeds" seeds. This marks the official launch of this seed collection, that has been a work-in-progress for the past year.
As per tradition, a calamansi-pandan drink will be served and guests are welcomed to walk the garden compound for cuttings after the slide presentation.
