Peranakan Beadworks Workshop
Try traditional Peranakan beadworking with our in-house designer!
About the workshop
Peranakan beading was a tradition practiced by Peranakan ladies (nyonyas) in the past when it was customary for women to be able to bead their own shoes before getting married. Before their wedding night, nyonyas would hand-bead a pair of Kasut Manek (Peranakan beaded shoes) for their husbands-to-be as well as themselves. These beloved Kasut Manek would be worn on the newly weds wedding day in preparation of beginning a marital life of bliss together.
Through this workshop, learn the basic concepts behind Peranakan beadworks with our in-house designer; Mr. Raymond Wong. Gain the basic skills required to venture beyond creating a small piece of beaded-design, to one that can be worn on your feet to allow your friends to marvel at our shared heritage through your efforts and perseverance to complete a Kasut Manek!
Blackout Dates due to festival season: Dec-Feb and May-June.
