About the workshop

Linocut, also known as lino print, lino printing or linoleum art, is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used for a relief surface. In the 1800s, its main use was that of a floor material and then as actual wall paper! By the 1890's, this technical skill was adopted by artists to be utilized as an artistic medium.

In this hands-on workshop, marry technical skills and creative thought by learning how the longstanding art of lino printing works, in an intimate studio housed within the cultural depths of Kampong Glam. Featuring local motifs with glocal stories, be inspired by Hairul, the Creative Director at Lokka Lekkr Makers Studio and an academia-slash-artist with multiple works in iconography & pattern making. Go on an enriching journey of Linocut printing, its history in Singapore and Asia, and associated crafting techniques!
