About the workshop

From Greek to Chinese moulds, from Prosphoro (holy bread) to Ang Ku Kueh stamps, some of her artefacts date back centuries.

In this intimate session, allow collector and researcher Jasmine Adams to delight your senses on a journey through culinary history. Touch and feel an impressive mould collection (amassed over two decades!) while learning about little-known origins of domestic kitchenware. Then, taste carefully-selected Peranakan kueh and tea before getting hands-on with the moulds—by making clay kueh magnets!

Choose to either:
(1) Make your own fridge magnet using heirloom moulds - packaged with a kit you can complete at home, OR
(2) paint existing models you can bring home.

Jasmine holds a Masters Degree in Southeast Asian Studies and is deeply passionate about the region. Additionally, her Peranakan background and an international upbringing have given her unique perspectives about Singapore’s history and changing place in the world.

Also an experienced tour guide (she has guided Melissa McCarthy!), Jasmine knows many of Singapore's best-kept secrets, but is more than happy to share! Join her and indulge in kueh, tea and conversation!

What you will experience

(1) Jasmine will bring you on a trip back in culinary history as she shares how pastry stamping and moulding began. With her heirloom moulds, she will explain the development of this very domestic craft, as well as highlight oft-overlooked symbols on popular Singaporean pastries, like Ang Ku Kueh.
(2) Listen to diverse and delightful anecdotes of how Jasmine began collecting and obtained different moulds.
(3) Sit either indoors or in Jasmine's beautiful garden for a tasting of hand-picked Peranakan kuehs while learning about their respective symbols. Get insights on how their recipes have evolved.
(4) Get hands-on with watching a demo of how the moulds are made before painting your own ready-made clay magnet to bring home!
