Handbuilding Trial Class
Learn the foundational techniques of handbuilding!
About the workshop
An ancient pottery-making technique, handbuilding allows for a greater control over the final outcomes of your artwork, including size and forms. In this workshop, you will be taught a mix of slab building, coiling and pinching – foundational techniques of handbuilding – to create vessels such as cups, mugs, plates... The options are endless!
What you will experience
The instructor will first begin a discussion to find out more about your previous experience with clay as well as your expectations from the session. Thereafter, you will be led on a studio walk-through, to learn more about studio pottery practices and the various processes that must occur before a ceramic product is finished.
You will then be guided to use the banding wheel to create your item of choice. Learn the different techniques of handbuilding such as slab building, coiling and pinching to create your very own piece! The instructor may work on his/her own piece next to the participants to allow for a close-up observation and facilitate learning by imitation.
Look forward to receiving your very own hand-built masterpiece! If there is adequate time and an available wheel, you will be encouraged to experience the potter's wheel too, just for the fun of it!
