About the workshop

The Japanese tea ceremony, also called the Way of Tea, is a Japanese cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea. In Japanese, it is called chanoyu (茶の湯) or sadō, chadō (茶道), while the manner in which it is performed, or the art of its performance, is called (o)temae ([お]手前; [お]点前)

Back in Japan in the 8th century, tea was consumed as a medicinal beverage only priests and the noblemen could afford. Subsequently, the cultivation of tea spread throughout Japan and made tea a popular beverage among people.

In this workshop, you have the option of experiencing a traditional Japanese tea ceremony as a guest or host(ess), with or without donning a yukata (the casual version of a kimono).

Important: Please bring socks to go on the tatami for your tea ceremony. If you are choosing Package B, indicate on the checkout page your gender(s) + height(s) so that we can prepare the right-fitting yukatas.
