About the workshop
Learn the traditional Chinese folk art of Paper Cutting with our Paper Cutting Class! Chinese paper cutting (Chinese: 剪纸，Pinyin: jiǎnzhǐ) is the earliest form of paper craft. Since the invention of paper by the Chinese in 105 AD, it has been used for this traditional decorative folk art.
Cut-paper designs are commonly posted on windows and doors all around China and are sometimes also called “chuāng huā”, meaning “window flower”. Many of the designs are unbelievably intricate and wonderful! If you are interested in Chinese paper-cutting, don’t hesitate to attend our paper-cutting class where we’ll teach you all of the methods and tricks used by professional paper cutters and culture and the whole history!
What you will experience
Paper cutting is suitable for anybody, including novices. During this 2.5 hour workshop, our teacher will introduce the basic history of paper cutting and showcase the examples of cutting skills, with a view to really getting your creative juices flowing and your own imagination racing. After this you will have time to create your own creation, using only a single sheet of paper and a pair of scissors. Once you have completed the paper cutting, take it home and be ready for you to show off your newly found skills!
